Began training in 2003 in Laredo, Texas and was part of the very first BJJ gym that opened in town. This academy was run by Professor Leo Cantu and was with him from white -purple belt. Was simultaneously training in Judo at the TAMIU Judo Club and eventually under John Gil who was from the Alamo Judo Club in San Antonio Texas. Earned Judo brown belt in 2006 from John Gil. Around 2010 started training with Professor Aurelio Gallegos out of Corpus Christi Texas. Received BJJ brown and black belts from Aurelio Gallegos (black belt awarded in 2014). Competed at all belt levels in Gi, No Gi, and Judo throughout the years coming up through the ranks. Coached at a different martial arts gym for a couple years before opening Mavericks BJJ in 2023.
