Armlocks have always played a major role in the ne-waza (ground game) of Japanese Judo & Jujitsu, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Russian Sambo, and now submission fighting and submission wrestling because of their immediate effectiveness. Armlocks fall under the category of kansetsu-waza or joint locks. Judo teaches armlocks as the third section of the ground work kata in 5 different variations.
This tape series stresses mainly the straight and reverse armlocks also known in Japanese as the juji-gatame and gaku-juji-gatame.
In order to become proficient in the use of the Juji in competition, one must ‘ingrain’ it into their muscle memory through high repetition with the use of a cooperative partner or on a submission dummy.
Remember, safety is of the utmost importance, catching your partner’s arm fast is one thing, locking it fast is another. Be diligent in your peseverance towards perfection, all paths lead to the armlock, Train Hard… Train Smart!!!

This is a review I left on amazon.com :
Was looking at MA DVD’s in response to Afghanistan-based military close-quarter combat instructor’s request for teaching materials. I purchased this 6-DVD set and am only watching it to make sure all 6 DVD’s play.
Production values / audio : one of the first DVD-based programs I’ve watched with easy-on-the-ears audio. By this I mean it’s not in some dojo or gym made of 100% Italian marble where you get an unavoidable & constant audio-in-a-barrel ringing echo.
Production values / video : it’s well-done, & Mr. Paulson has a good sense of what is visible or not to the viewer. The video is low-tech, & that’s a good thing: clear, well-framed, recorded at the appropriate distance, and SINGLE CAMERA/SINGLE ANGLE!(where it is the =WRESTLERS= that change angle, & your eyes don’t have to re-orient to complex wrestler wrap-ups when you’d suddenly get a new angle edited in. By accident or by design, the production company got it right.
As for the wrestling/armlock techniques, I’m no expert, but the ease & thoroughness with which Mr.Paulson describes each technique(& every permutation: counter-moves & counter-counter-moves / variations / options / etc.) demonstrates to me a reliable indicator of expertise.
I’m impressed, & of the various MA/MMA DVD sets I’ve watched so far(half a dozen or so), this one is among the best. Does what it sets out to do. Delivers as advertised, & I will pick up his “Leg Locks” set as well.
Thank you-
We’ll be shooting w more cams this year. Should be better quality!
Thanks for your support!
Godspeed
