How much Aikido, Hapkido, Kung Fu, Ninjitsu, Penjak Silat, Doce Pares Escrima, Krav Maga, and weapon use do you incorporate into your teachings.
As Bruce Lee taught and will always be known for, you cannot limit yourself to few things, but open your mind to everything. I hope that you don’t limit your students training to just your experienced backround.
Truly just curious of your response, forever a student.
Thanks Sensei Erik, I will go straightaway to this school (wherever it is)
I’m starting to teach more classes on a blend of martial arts rather than just fight shit thanks erik.
Teaching in the UK doing an MMA Seminar tour!
Mike El Maton,
what are you trying to say? That Erik should be teaching Aikido, Hapkido, Kung Fu, Ninjitsu, Penjak Silat, Doce Pares Escrima, Krav Maga, and weaponry? Just curious.
Hey Sensei,
Hope all is well up in the UK. I am having trouble finishing my leg locks because of the short limbs. Hope to see you back soon.
Dee
Hey Eric, I have been training JKD for about 2 1/2 years now. To be honest, It has opened a whole new world for me and I can’t even fathom what I did with my time before this. I have been training under Sifu Paul Irish and most recently I just participated in a seminar under both Paul and Makoto Kabayama. What a WICKED WEEKEND! I’ve heard so much about you from these guys, hopefully I’ll get the oppurtunity to train under you one day! From what I hear, Sifu Larry Hartsell was quite the son of a bitch too! R.I.P. I hear you like to fish??? Have you ever tried fly fishing??? Good times! Take care my friend!
LukeMC
I apologize for the misspelling of your name, my bad! Sifu Erik Paulson!

Hi Erik!
I was wondering if you guys have open mat times for anyone not a member of your school? I am a purple belt in BJJ and have never really grappled with anyone outside the BJJ/Wrestling circle. Or is there an option for class by class fees? I can’t afford to train at two schools at the same time right now. Thank you so much Erik
Hi mike-
There’s a $20 dollar a nite drop infee and you can come to open practice on Saturday to just roll w new guys!
thank you
erik 8189194785
You are great. I love your old fights….I trained at “Tracy’s Kenpo Karate” for many years, as it was the closest to JKD in my area…..now I’m training at a Muay Thai gym in Sacramento, and a Wrestling/Fight club in CA. I saw one of your instructionals at a buddies house and, I have to say, you are a great teacher! I picked up many ideas in a few minutes.
Is there an affiliate school in Northern California? I’m very interested, and a big fan, of the style/fashion of your teaching. Get back at me. Thank You!
Casey
hey sensei. paulson i need to ask you this . im trying understand this about martial arts ive been doing all types of martial art styles and old shcool styles keep saying its the best set of skills and it is stronger then the other styles and i know its bs . but i have tryed to kind of say in the nicest way that we need to keep an open mind and to add more to what we know and be better fighters but i feel like im talking to myself when i tell them that .so im asking you what do i do . i mean is it me
all the styles of martial arts flow in to each other so why are there still so many schools that kind of mind set.
Charles,
it is as simple as this. it is not the style but the individual that defines them.
derrick
Hey Erik,
You called me two years ago about KOC in WA state, and I lost your number, but would love to discuss having you up for some seminar stuff the next time you’re in the area. I would try to get my guys up to Chris Clarke’s gym when you’re up, but we are about 5 hours away, and less of the group can travel than more. You can always reach me at (509) 987-9811
On a side note, just wanted to say that you have got to be the most generous guy in the game at this point! I have literally spent hours both here, and on Burgee’s Youtube channel, and the amount of info you share is staggering! I, and many, many others, appreciate everything you share!

Hi Erik, I’m lucky enough to live about 10 minutes from your CSW center in Fullerton and plan on becoming a member ASAP but i have a question for you regarding my age. I’m 30 years old and live a healthy lifestyle but was wondering if you think i am too old to begin serious MMA training with the hopes of one day competing in MMA professionally? your opinion would be extremely valuable to me! Thanks!
Hello, I had the pleasue of meeting you and your fam lst night here in Minnesota. How about a school in Blain Or Coon rapids soon? War Josh Barnett!
Hello, Mr. Paulson; I’ve been studying martial arts for more than 16 years here in Brazil. I’m both a striker and a grappler. I’m used to BJJ grappling techniques, but lately I’ve been much interested particularly on CSW, in order to increase my grappling skills (wrestiling is barely known here). How could I bring this knowledge to my country? Or is there any CSW school in Brazil (don’t think so)? I’ve been studying your videos seriously, but I’d like some close contact with the art of CSW. Thank you very much and keep on grappling!
Hi Erik, This is Darryl. I was a Student of Mike Krivka a long time ago and had come to Cali (a long time ago) to train with you and others from the Inosanto academy. This was oh about 15 years ago! Anyways I have been training BJJ and have been learning from your videos! Your videos have helped better my game and I think it would benefit any fighter. The more tools you bring to the mat the better! Especially your skills! If you have time keep in touch and shoot me an email. I am still in Maryland and will try and make some seminars when you are in the area or stop by the school one day when I visit Cali!
Hi Darryl-
Nice to hear from you!!! Hopeyou are well. Come to our camp at the end of the month if you can! If you can’t come down anytime or I will see you on one of the seminars on the East Coast, check out the seminar schedule for more info! Miss you Buddy!
Erik
I will defintely look at upcoming seminars. training camp sounds great but I will need to catch a later one. BTW there is a profile of you on Facebook. I added you on there but I’m not sure if its legit. Miss seeing you too bro.
well ok then…i can take the hint….sorry i bothered you…or brought up stuff you dont want to talk about…. really was a long time ago…
so no more from me….
hi sifu are you proud of your jeet kune do heritage what do you think of the way JKD has gone and do you think bruce will be smilling down keep up the great work !! glyn
My personal story sounds eerily similar to this. The major difference is you have to substitute all the whoopin’ for drinkin’ and we might as well be brothers. By the way, you may have about 3 billion different subs from 3 billion positions but I haven’t seen a good defense for an Indian Burn yet from you. I thought you were serious
Is it Okay, or shall i say “Practical” to train from Videos and then teach the material to students? I Have a Black Belt in Judo & Jujutsu (Japanese) but have seen and am seeing a lot of videos of other styles such as yours which is not accesible because of geographics and i would like to incorporate some of the Techs and priinciples into my own curriculum. Is this Wise? or does it do any good if you’re not personally learning from a qualified instructor?
wow the site looks great
The new site is killer!!!
Love the iPhone download option!
Excited for some new gear going in the store, sure it will sell out fast.
Thanks for posting so many videos so frequently, I check this site about every other day.
Cheers.
Thank You …Webmaster Bob is working hard everyday and I am sending him loads of info!
Please stay tuned!
Erik
Hello Erik
This is Mark I. How are you doing? Me I am just fine. Its been a long time since Ive visited your website , & now I see that you have whole new one set up. Much broader than the other one you’ve had previously , but I love it. Ive seen some of clips on the classes that are taught and they’re great. I wish I was there to participate. I hope to in the near future. I am still with the jujitsu certification which going well for me as well as my personal training. I dont know what you are doing in December of this yr , but my instructor Michael DePasquale Jr will be hosting the 2010 MARTIAL ARTS UNIVERSITY for the ( INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF JUJITSUANS ) in Suffern NY at the Suffern Inn hotel. The dates are December 3 – 5 2010. Just thought that I would mention that to you. You can pass this info along to your students. Its for everybody. I mentioned it to Greg Nelson too. I hope to see you there. Hope all is well , & keep in touch.
SIncerely,
Mark Ingemi
Hey Erik – just wanted to say Congrads to you, Greg, Brock, and everyone else who helped out in the great fight Brock had. Amazing how many new Brock fans there were after he won.
Mike.
I wrote in russian lanquage, therefore ??? appear. In shot: I very like CSW because it is wrestling in clear version. Me 42 and my experience of fighting about 20 years: box, sambo, cinna, knife combat. Nou, half- year we with freand learn CSW. Our specialisation- selfdefens.
More ridht can,t. Good lak. Maxim
Hi Erik,
I have watched a couple of clips anI really like what I see:)
I’m esspecially interested in coach Marvin Cook style and teachings.
Do you have any plans to realease some boxing materials exclusively authored by him? Sort like your Essential series but dedicated to the Stand up game in its enirety as taught by Mr Cook? Thanks. Best od luck. Dimo
Hi-
I have the csw striking dvd that has a lot of his influence on them and alot of footage on them. I can talk to my webmaster to see if he can compile all of Marvin’s footage on it !? we’ll see if not maybe you can order a personal training dvd w Marvin coaching ! either way let me know!
thanks
erik 818-919-4785
Hi Erik,
Thanks for your responce.
I would be very happy if I could order Marvin’s personal training dvds if there are any available, and to order them immediately. If he has some sort of “long distance” coaching dvds it would make me a hapiest man in the world if I could get them! Please inform me ASAP:)
I have spend so many years on wing chun, jkd, silat and other things, but since I have discovered MMA, all vent out of the window! A couple of years ago, I have started some boxing, but once I have seen Marvin I knew this is exactly what I have been looking for all this years!
One more thing: I have noticed that you use PayPal for orders, which does not works for my country, so is there any other way around this? For example, I can send you my CC data via e-mail.
Thank you.
Dimo
Hi Dimo,
We do have a downloadable order form if you cannot use paypal.
http://erikpaulson.com/adobe/order_form.pdf
Also, you are no required to have a paypal account. You can use your credit card via the paypal checkout. Thanks for your interest and please let me know if you have any other technical questions.
All the best.
Bob.
Hi Sir,
Thanks a lot for your responce.
If I understand well I should fill out the pdf document and then e-mail it to Erik or sales officer at the CSW store. I cannot use my Card via PayPal because their checking system does not except Credit Cards issued from the contries that are not part of their list. Since I’m from Macedonia, there isn’t any way for me to use Pay Pal. I have had this same problem many times, as many online orders are processed via PayPal. At the end So, I can send my info in e-mail and then you can process the order manualy, if that is OK with you. There are so many great DVDs in CSW store, that we should work this out for the sake of future orders.
Thanks.
My Best,
Dimo
I didnt know they trained Catch Wrestling in the CSW Training Center i wonder who Erik Paulson trained under to get certified in that. I know that Billy Robinson and Sifu Paulson did a DVD together. Robinson is also one of the only people in the world who can do “hooking” Which is a devestating way to end a fight its basically what Tony Cecchine calls the KO of grappling. You dont give the guy time to tap at all you litarally break, or tear something its a very vicious art. Cecchine himself has a back injury thats pretty severe but im sure Sifu Paulson will teach it in as safe a way as possible but still keep its devestating arsenal
Hi-
Sorry to hear about Tony’s back. I hope that he can heal real soon and get back to teaching pand training! At our gym we try to emphasize safety and the PPProgram (Preserve your Partner Program).
To train safely with your partner, not on your partner. We stress conditioning, drilling, wrestling, submissions, escapes, transitions, and live-go’s every class. Getting injured sux and slows down your ability to get better. As i’m getting older I’m more selective with my training partners and my limits to only do what my body allows me to do! Unfortunately injuries do
Greetings Coach Erik,
Had a GREAT time at the seminar you did for Cory and I in Fort Worth. Always a tough workout and lots of material covered. Been working the stuff with my guys here in Waco and getting them ready for you in November at Curt’s place. Can’t wait to see you and Tonya again and share some good food and laughs again. Hope you are enjoying the Famer Burns manuals.
Tim
Tim -
Thank you for all the support and the manual. I have to go over all his teachings. i wish that i couldhave taught moreof the intricate details of the ground wrestlng game! But, for everyone, we could only hit the basics of all the needto know drills which work on everyone, under every circumstance. The basics are what you use every day!
Thanks for all of the support!
Erik
Work your top, side , and back game. A good takedown or two straight into your sub attack game will be the key. Roll everyday w all of your guys is the goal. Adress your weaknesses! The next step is to compete in subtourneys!
Good Luck and God Bless!
Erik
It’s a great system, I vouch for its effectivness 100%. I used to get frustrated quite often when I started,
lots of intricacies, and you can’t miss a beat, but as sesnei Domenic Amato down at South East Academy taught me, ‘be patient, the jigsaw pieces will fall into place, just drill!’.
After a year and some mixing it up on the mats, Its falling into place, bit by bit, transition to transition, and my younger brother, weight-lifting tattooed junior monster, much bigger and stronger than me, is convinced now its the way to train – i’ll get him everytime, rolling around in my front yard, much to the neighbours’ amusement, or horror. Women have been known to scream, and my wife throw shoes at us.
She just wants to roll with me, but won’t admit it.
Cheers Erik
Turls, Melbourne Australia
Hi Sensei Erik,
Love all of your Dvd’s and PPV Channel, Do you have any plans to release a STX series, the way you did with the csw student levels 1-5. I would buy them in a heart beat. it would be great to see the glove drills, fakes and setups, and further progressing in to the defensive and offensive game plan.
Hey Erik,
Do you have any plans to release the CSW seminar shirts (especially the ones that Marvin is wearing)? I’m sure there’d be very popular with people who weren’t able to make it the seminars…
Thanks!
